Sublime, genuinely spiritual jazz.
Birchall's playing is exquisite; delicate, yearning, surging and searching. The tone is strongly evokes Coltrane, but there is something softer hear; less urgent, perhaps. Either way, it is absolutely faultless.
The supporting players e all wonderful, cushioning and propelling Birchall in deft, sensitive ways. And the clarity of production lets the music flow over you in waves.
I could play this every day. Jazz as Prayer.
